Basic Loss and Grief Support Training (Online)

When: 9am-12:30pm, 26-28 November 2022

Where: Online, via Zoom

Learn what to say and how to care for someone who is grieving in this online introductory course. Participants will explore reactions to loss and the grief process, and develop skills to effectively support someone who is grieving.

Walk for Life remembers and celebrates the lives of our beloved young people who have died suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrhythmia.

Remembering at Christmas Ceremony (Dubbo)

When: Thursday 15 December 2022

Where: NALAG Dubbo, 7 Welchman Street, Dubbo

The Christmas season can be a difficult time for people who are grieving. NALAG Dubbo’s Remembering at Christmas ceremony is an opportunity for the community to come together and remember loved ones who have died or are unable to join us this Christmas. From 15th November, people are invited to hang a memorial ornament or card on the Christmas remembrance tree at NALAG’s Centre for Loss and Grief and attend a candlelight remembering ceremony on 15th December.

This interactive course aims to develop the knowledge and skills of human services workers to effectively support people who are distressed. The course is aimed at those who are not trained counsellors and who are not in counselling roles, however frequently find themselves having to use counselling skills due to the nature of their roles.

Group sessions to support children and young people (6-13yrs) experiencing loss. Seasons for Growth, developed by Good Grief, incorporates a wide range of age-appropriate activities involving drawing, role-play, stories, discussion, playdough, music and journal activities.

This interactive workshop explores the tactics that are used to maintain power and control in Domestic and Family Violence, the potential impacts on survivors, the signs that may indicate Domestic and Family Violence, the importance of safety as a tool for supporting survivors and how this may be implemented, key responses/communication strategies when responding to Domestic and Family Violence, and options for providing information and referral.

Child Grief and Trauma – Working Creatively with Children

This training provides an understanding of Crisis, Trauma, Loss & Grief for children aged 5-12 years and explores children's responses to these events and emotions. You will explore a range of tools to engage children to tell their story and express themselves to promote healing.

This workshop provides an introductory understanding of how trauma impacts human development and survival and how these impacts can present themselves in children, young people and adults. This course will explore what this means for supporting, engaging and working with people who have experienced trauma.
