Work Placement Students/Graduates
We are providing volunteer opportunities for students/graduates who are aspiring to work in or with clients who are experiencing grief and loss.
NALAG placement students have access to resources and education as part of becoming NALAG members, and they complete Basic Loss & Grief training which equips them with the skills required to effectively support someone who is grieving. With branches in Dubbo, Mudgee, Bellingen, Hunter and Sydney, our placement students support people from all over the country. These skills and training are great additions to your CV if you are transitioning into the workforce from study.
Duties can include:
Providing face-to-face, individual grief support
Providing telephone grief support
Providing assistance with administrative tasks
Helping to promote special events
Opportunities to provide Palliative Care
To be a Grief Support Volunteer you must:
Provide a valid NSW Working With Children Check and National Police Clearance Certificate (NALAG can assist you in obtaining these documents).
Become a member of NALAG – cost $60
Complete Basic Loss and Grief Support Training (training is a combination of 2 x 3 hour online sessions and 1 x full day practical workshop) – cost $250
You can give as little or as much time as you can manage. Sessions as aGrief Support volunteer usually last 1 hour for adults and half an hour for children. Depending on your client you could spend as little as 1 hour per fortnight providing support.
Intakes and Training:
NALAG offers intakes at different times during the year. The full day training workshop is available at various NALAG branches. Upon completion, Grief Support TeleVolunteers can then offer their support from their home locations.
