Psychological First Aid Workshop

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is designed to provide evidence informed interventions used to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic/ crisis events, disasters, and a range of loss and grief experiences, to foster short-and long-term adaptive functioning and coping strategies for impacted communities and individuals.

​

PFA is a humane, supportive response to another person who is suffering and in need of support.

​

This one-day training program is a face to face interactive PFA workshop, including small group and role play work that is designed to support NALAG Support Volunteers build confidence in implementing PFA principles.

​

This course has been modified for the NALAG context in early response to clients who present in a distressed state after adverse events or recent losses. It will explore the use of PFA strategies in telephone, face to face support and when being part of outreach responses to communities experiencing adversity and traumatic losses.

Course benefits:

  • Understand the core skills of PFA and its many applications in both the disaster context and when supporting those experiencing distress related to loss and grief experiences.

  • Learn fundamental skills to use when responding to a client in crisis or seeking loss and grief support.

  • Be equipped with tools to provide support in a range of situations.

  • Become confident in supporting someone during emergencies, disasters, traumatic events and early grief and loss situations.

  • Understand how to take care of yourself to maintain personal wellbeing.

 

CPD points available and Certificate of attendance will be presented.
