Child Grief and Trauma

One day skills workshop

Presented by Cathy Banks

Sudden and traumatic death impacts on children. Children’s exposure to the death of someone they love whether that is a parent, sibling, grandparent or pet is a painful experience.  The exposure usually requires some facilitation for the expression of feelings and the opportunity to ask questions about the loss or tragedy. This workshop looks at facilitation of expression through drawing, sandplay and creative methods allowing children to identify feelings and understand the loss through sensory means.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Provide an understanding of Crisis, Trauma, Loss & Grief for children aged 5-12 years

  • Explore children’s responses

  • Explore a range of tools to engage children to tell their story and express themselves to promote healing

  • Practice use of “tools” in engaging with children following crisis, trauma and loss.

  • Create a “toolbox” of resources to use with children.
